Extended Information:

Which is the best Linux distribution? The only right answer to that question is, "compare them yourself." When you buy the Linux MegaPak, you can test drive all of these distributions:

Plus: When you've decided which Linux is best for you, please consider buying its "official" version: By doing so, you help support the companies that foster Linux development and promotion. You also get extras not included in the freely-distributable versions, such as commercial software, printed documentation, and attractive packaging.

Evolution of the MegaPak:
Date Change
1998/12/02 MegaPak (part #00848) introduced with Caldera OpenLinux Lite 1.3, Debian 2.0, Linux Pro 5.4, Red Hat Linux 5.2, S.u.S.E. 5.3, Slackware 3.6, and TurboLinux 3.0.
1998/12/31 FreeBSD and Mandrake added to MegaPak.
1999/02/10 Linux Lovers Bumper Sticker replaced by Penguin Power Bumper Sticker.
1999/03/15 SuSE Linux updated from 5.3 to 6.0; Mandrake updated from 5.2 to 5.3.
1999/04/15 Debian updated from the 2.0 single CD to the 2.1 two-CD set. This meant that the MegaPak changed from a 9-CD set to a 10-CD set, and so the price had to increase from $15.99 to $17.79.
1999/05/17 Red Hat Linux updated from 5.2 to 6.0, SuSE from 6.0 to 6.1, and Caldera from 1.3 to 2.2 - all related to the release of the 2.2 Linux kernel. This change was considered dramatic enough to merit the assignment of a new part number: 01062.
1999/06/09 TurboLinux updated from 3.0 to 3.0.1, Slackware from 3.6 to 4.0, FreeBSD from 2.2.8 to 3.1, and Mandrake from 5.3 to 6.0.
1999/06/29 TurboLinux updated from 3.0.1 to 3.6; TurboLinux 3.6 Companion CD, increasing the total from 10 CDs to 11. The price therefore increased from $17.79 to $19.59.
1999/08/30 SuSE Linux updated from 6.1 to 6.2.
1999/09/24 Caldera OpenLinux updated from 2.2 to 2.3.
1999/09/29 Mandrake updated from 6.0 to 6.1.
1999/10/15 FreeBSD updated from 3.2 to 3.3.
1999/10/22 Red Hat Linux updated from 6.0 to 6.1.
1999/11/16 Slackware Linux updated from 4.0 to 7.0 (there were no versions in between those two).
2000/01/11 SuSE Linux updated from 6.2 to 6.3.
2000/01/14 TurboLinux updated from 3.6 to 4.0.
2000/02/08 Linux-Mandrake updated from 6.1 to 7.0; FreeBSD updated from 3.3 to 3.4.
2000/02/24 Corel Linux added to the MegaPak. This brought the total number of CDs up from 10 to 11, and the price up from $19.59 to $21.49.
